How do I call off my engagement politely, he’s a good man — Lady seeks advice
A young woman has opened up about her emotional struggle with ending her engagement, despite having loved her fiancé deeply for two years.
She shared that her relationship had been full of love, laughter, and shared dreams. “We grew together, shared plans, laughed, even talked about the future like two people who were sure of each other,” she said.
Love Changed After Engagement
The woman said that after accepting the proposal, something inside her shifted. “He didn’t hurt me, he didn’t change, he’s still the same caring, loving and supportive person I know. The problem is not him, it’s in my heart,” she explained.
She revealed that the excitement she once felt for marriage began to fade.
Despite trying to ignore the feelings, praying, and keeping quiet to avoid hurting him, she admitted that deep down she was no longer sure about marrying him.
She confided in two friends who warned her that breaking the engagement could lead to unforgiveness.
Facing a Heartbreaking Decision
“I honestly loved this guy for the past two years, and accepting the engagement was real. But I don’t feel the strong love and certainty I need before marriage. He didn’t do anything wrong, and this is not about another person,” she said.
She stressed that she does not want to enter marriage with doubt or pretense because her fiancé deserves someone fully certain of their love.
“Seriously, my heart is heavy. I want to call off this engagement because I don’t want to ever imagine hurting this guy in mind,” she added.
She also recounted her family’s reaction. “I briefly told my parent the other day, and my dad called me an ogbanje, that it’s only people with that spirit that behaves like that,” she said.
Despite this, she stands by her feelings and seeks the best way to communicate her decision.
Seeking Advice on Breaking the News
The woman is now looking for a way to break the news to her fiancé without feeling guilty and hopes to maintain a friendship.
“Yes we promised not to leave each other, but this is life, and sometimes we can’t question certain things,” she said.
