Homesick Cole Palmer welcomes idea of Manchester United move

Cole Palmer would be open to a move to Manchester United this summer if Chelsea decide to sanction a blockbuster transfer, amid reports the England international is unsettled in London.
The 23-year-old left Manchester City for Chelsea in 2023 and has since developed into one of the club’s most influential players, scoring 41 goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions.
Despite that impact, reports in England suggest Palmer has struggled to fully settle in the capital and would welcome a return to Manchester.
United preferred over City return
According to reports, Palmer would favour a switch to boyhood club Manchester United rather than a return to City, where Pep Guardiola remains in charge.
A move back to the Etihad Stadium has reportedly been ruled out, with the player keen on a fresh chapter closer to home if he leaves Stamford Bridge.

United’s recruitment structure could also play a role. Director of football Jason Wilcox worked closely with Palmer during his time at City’s academy and previously spoke highly of his potential, while chief executive Omar Berrada is also familiar with the player’s development.
Chelsea stance remains firm
Chelsea, however, are not actively looking to sell. Palmer is viewed internally as a long-term cornerstone, and any deal would require a significant offer.
Head coach Liam Rosenior recently dismissed speculation around the attacker’s future.
“I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very, very happy to be here,” Rosenior said. “He’s a huge part of our plans in the long term. Every player goes through difficult moments with injuries. It’s not a reflection on his qualities.”
Palmer has been hampered by a groin issue this season, limiting him to 12 league appearances and ruling him out of Chelsea’s recent win over Crystal Palace.
United midfield plans taking shape
Manchester United are expected to invest heavily in midfield this summer, with Casemiro set to leave and questions surrounding the futures of Manuel Ugarte and captain Bruno Fernandes.
Fernandes, who has 18 months left on his contract, has again been linked with a potential move away.
Palmer is seen as a possible long-term creative option should United reshape their attacking midfield.
United have made an encouraging start under interim head coach Michael Carrick, recording back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal to move into the Premier League top four.
