Hijab-wearing lady stopped from entering JAMB CBT center as video goes viral

A viral video circulating online has sparked widespread debate after a female candidate wearing a hijab was stopped from entering her examination centre during the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

In the trending footage, the hijab-wearing candidate was seen standing in a queue with others preparing to sit for the exam.

She was, however, denied entry into the examination hall. A security operative conducting clearance reportedly instructed her to remove her hijab before she could be allowed inside.

The lady, who appeared visibly upset, turned away from the entrance. Another security officer was also seen reinforcing the instruction that she must remove the hijab before gaining access to the venue and taking her exam.

Public Reactions

The incident has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with users divided over whether the action was justified or discriminatory.

Naziru Umar wrote: “A young lady wearing hijab being denied entry into her JAMB CBT centre is pure discrimination and violation of her religious rights.

Hijab is not a fashion, it is our Islamic obligation. Stopping her from writing her exam because of it is wrong and against the freedom of religion guaranteed in our constitution.

We deserve equal rights and respect in our own country. This kind of injustice must stop. May Allah make it easy for her and all our sisters.”

Congresswoman wrote: “The wear the hijabi to exams hall under the pretex of religion just to commit fraud and exams malpractice with ease.

The hijabi or any vail should be banned in exams hall, universities in northern Nigeria don’t condone it, so their is no big deal in it.”

Spider wrote: “Sis come with full hijab like say she de go Mecca straight, security just block her like “Abeg park well, dis one no be fashion show!”

Dem say make you no carry expo inside that voluminous hijab, maybe notebook, earpiece or even small generator wey go power the cheating machine.”

AdeBembe wrote: “Because of her dress code they stopped her from writing her jamb this is really unfair. Discrimination won’t take us anywhere in this country.”
