“He’s helping me a lot” – Dele-Bashiru credits former Chelsea manager for Lazio development

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru says Maurizio Sarri has played an important role in his development during a challenging period at Lazio.
The Nigerian midfielder made the comments ahead of Lazio’s Serie A fixture against Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico.
Dele-Bashiru recently scored in Lazio’s 2-2 draw against Atalanta and hopes the goal will help him build momentum after a difficult season.
Sarri’s guidance key for midfielder
The 25-year-old, who joined Lazio in 2024, has struggled for consistency due to injuries and international commitments, including representing Nigeria national football team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the setbacks, Dele-Bashiru credited Sarri and his coaching staff for helping him improve.

“He’s helping me a lot, there are always several aspects that a footballer can improve on,” Dele-Bashiru said.
“I know the coach and his staff expect so much from me. They know my qualities and try to get them out in every workout, technically and tactically.
“This year, despite the difficulties, he taught me a lot. I only work to get a chance to prove my worth.”
Difficult season for the Nigerian
Dele-Bashiru admitted injuries and time away for international duty disrupted his rhythm this season.
“I was very happy for the goal. So far unfortunately I have had a difficult season: first I had several injuries, then I left for the African Cup of Nations,” he said.
“I have never found continuity, that’s why I hope the performance and the net against Atalanta can become a starting point for this season’s finale.”
Lazio target Coppa Italia success
The midfielder said Lazio are focused on finishing the campaign strongly, with the Coppa Italia seen as a major opportunity.
“For the current season our goal is to try to win the Italian Cup,” he said.
“It would be important for the team and the fans. It would help us finish in the best way in a complicated season, also giving us qualification to the next Europa League.”
Lazio currently sit 11th in the Serie A table as they prepare for their next league match against Sassuolo.
