“Helping your wife doesn’t make you a simp” — Man calls out Nigerian men

A man has stirred debate online after claiming that 80 to 90 percent of men were not raised properly, explaining that this is why many refuse to help their partners with household chores.
Speaking candidly, he said assisting a wife or girlfriend does not make a man less of a man or a “simp,” emphasising that chores should not be seen as a one-person responsibility.
Poor upbringing behind lazy husbands
“If you were raised properly, you should know that helping your partner isn’t a problem and doesn’t make you less of a man,” he said, pointing out that most men’s mothers failed in teaching them responsibility and shared household duties.
“In the house I was raised, although my mom didn’t force us to work, she would tell you: as I’m doing this thing, help me do that one. Chores aren’t just for women, they are for anyone who lives in the house.”
The man also highlighted that helping a partner is part of being a responsible adult.
He explained that if a wife is busy with tasks like washing clothes or cleaning, her partner should step in without hesitation, especially when both share the same home.
He added that refusing to help is often rooted in upbringing, not personal preference, and criticised men who see household work as beneath them.
His statement quickly went viral, sparking reactions online as users debated gender roles, responsibility, and proper upbringing in Nigerian homes.
