“Helping a friend landed me in trouble” — Husband refuses to pay hospital bill
A woman has cried out online after her attempt to help a pregnant friend during labour allegedly turned into a financial crisis when the woman’s husband insisted she should pay the N850,000 Caesarean Section (CS) hospital bill.
The woman narrated that the situation began in the early hours of the morning when she received a distress call from her friend.
“I checked my phone around 2 a.m. and it was my friend calling me. She said, ‘Please where are you?’ I told her, ‘Where I wan dey before, no be my husband’s house I dey?’ She begged me to come because she was already at the hospital and in serious pain”
She explained that because of the time, she asked her friend to hold on until morning.
Labour Complications
“By the time I got there around 5 a.m., she was still in labour. I asked her since when and she said since last night. I went to meet the doctor and asked what the issue was. I told them that if she cannot deliver normally, they should just run CS for her”
However, the pregnant woman initially resisted the idea of surgery.
“She told me, ‘No o, I have already born three children normally. Shey na this fourth one I go come do CS for?’ I kept explaining to her that children are not the same and sometimes situations change. After I finished talking to her and encouraging her, she finally agreed for them to do the operation”
Husband rejects responsibility
After the successful delivery of a 3kg baby boy, the woman said she contacted the husband, who works as a truck driver.
She added that the couple had originally planned to give birth at a health centre, but the woman was taken to the private hospital because it was the closest facility when labour started.
“I have entered serious trouble because of doing good. If I know, when she called me around 2 a.m., I would not even answer the call. I was only trying to help a friend that was in pain,” she said.
