‘He’ll be happier on Wednesday’ – Flick plays down Yamal frustration after win over Atletico

Hansi Flick has brushed aside concerns over Lamine Yamal’s visible frustration, insisting the youngster will be “in a better mood” ahead of Barcelona’s next fixture.
Barcelona moved seven points clear at the top of La Liga following victory over Atletico Madrid, but Flick revealed there was little celebration in the dressing room.
“The three points, very valuable. It’s not easy to play here, against a great team, because of the very intense atmosphere,” Flick said.
“The team are happy… but we don’t celebrate too much. Now Wednesday is the next game, very important game.”

Despite playing against 10 men for part of the second half, Barcelona struggled to break down Atletico’s defensive block before eventually finding the breakthrough.
“We tried everything to score the goal… they defended very well, but we controlled the game,” Flick added.
Yamal reaction not a concern
Attention after the match shifted to Yamal, who appeared frustrated at full-time. Flick, however, downplayed the situation.
“I don’t know exactly what happened. There was a lot of emotion. Lamine tried everything to score… he was always available,” he said.
“He will be in a better mood than today.”
Focus shifts to Champions League
Flick refused to be drawn on the title implications of the result or Real Madrid’s earlier defeat, stressing his focus remains internal.
“I don’t take care about [Real Madrid], I only care about my team,” he stated.
He also praised key contributors, including Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford, while urging consistency heading into the decisive phase of the season.
“With the Champions League, every player has an extra 5-10% to give… we all want to be at the semi-finals.”
Barcelona now turn their attention to a midweek European clash, with Flick emphasising the need for focus and recovery as the campaign enters a critical stage.
