“Tell your wife…” – Woman recounts encounter with ‘traditional man’ who refused to sit in husband’s car
A Nigerian woman has stirred reactions online after recounting an unusual encounter she and her husband had with a man who claimed to be a “traditional man” and refused to sit in the backseat of their car.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she explained that the incident happened when they spotted a man trekking under the scorching sun.
In her words, she said:
“We saw a young man trekking under the heavy hot sun. It’s not as if we stopped because we wanted to carry him. He was the one that stopped us and pleaded that we should give him a lift to the junction so he can take public transport to where he was going.”
According to her, her husband agreed to help and opened the backseat of the car for the man to enter.
However, the situation quickly turned awkward when the man declined and insisted that he could not sit in the back because of his traditional beliefs.
“He said no, that he’s a traditional man and he cannot sit at the back. He said my husband should tell me to go to the back so that he can come to the front seat. That a man is not supposed to be sitting at the back while a woman is sitting at the front.”
Reactions trailing the video have been mixed.
One user wrote, “Traditional man but no traditional car 😅?” Another added, “Some people don’t know when to keep quiet. Imagine the guts.”
The lady added that as the man kept repeating that he was a “traditional man,” her husband simply drove off and left him behind, ending the unexpected encounter.
