He punched me after I caught him having sex with my wife — Army officer

The Matero Local Court has heard a case in which a Lusaka physicist is accused of assaulting his girlfriend’s husband, a serving army officer.
The court was told that the incident occurred after the officer allegedly found the accused inside his matrimonial home.
Officer reports alleged assault
According to proceedings, the complainant, identified in court as Officer Kay, reported the matter to police following the confrontation.
He alleged that he found Dickson Musopelo, a resident of Chelston, inside his bedroom with his wife, Melody Kuliwa.
The officer testified that on September 26, 2025, he made an unplanned return home at night while working out of town.
Upon entering the bedroom, he said he found his wife with the accused and noticed semen on the bed.
The discovery reportedly led to a physical altercation that left the officer with injuries he claims were inflicted by Musopelo.
The matter is before Lusaka magistrate Victora Mututwa, where the accused denied the assault charge.
The court further heard that Officer Kay restrained himself from attacking the pair despite the situation he encountered.
Accused claims self-defence
In his defence, Musopelo said he acted in self-defence, alleging that Officer Kay was aggressive.
He told the court that he had gone to rest at Ms Kuliwa’s residence after she informed him she was separated from her husband.
“Around 22:30, she (Ms Kuliwa) woke me up and said that Officer Kay is here. I went to hide in the wardrobe, just to avoid conflict,” he said.
Musopelo explained that Officer Kay later opened the wardrobe and found him inside.
“He grabbed my belt and Kuliwa came in between to restrain us but as she was trying that, the complainant started throwing punches,” he told the court.
“The first punch was not aimed at me but her, so I pulled her out,” he said.
He further alleged that he was repeatedly punched and fell into a bathtub during the struggle.
“I fell into the bathtub, he hit me on the head, water started filling the tub and I was almost drowning,” Musopelo testified.
“As he was punching me while I was on the ground, I punched him just once with my left hand,” he added.
The accused also told the court that he lost consciousness at some point and later fled the scene with Ms Kuliwa.
During cross-examination, Musopelo admitted he had no proof to show that he was assaulted.
When asked by the prosecutor, “You were found having sex in their matrimonial bedroom, did you challenge that evidence?” he responded, “We never had s3x.”
