“He paid my school fees but I feel we’re no longer on the same level” – Lady drags ND Holder husband

A Nigerian lady has sparked discussions online after sharing her emotional struggle over the growing educational gap between her and her husband.

The lady shared her experience on X (formerly Twitter) via the handle @girlsMum1, explaining that while her husband supported her academic journey, he has refused to further his own education.

From SSCE to Master’s Degree

According to her post, she got married while she only had her Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination qualification, while her husband held a National Diploma.

Over the years, she continued her education despite the challenges of raising children, working a full-time job, and running a business.

She said her husband stood by her throughout the process and even paid her school fees, but repeatedly declined her encouragement to pursue further studies himself.

Struggling With Mixed Feelings

Now holding a Master’s degree, the woman admitted she sometimes feels uncomfortable discussing her husband’s qualification among her friends.

She questioned whether her feelings were valid or if she was simply overthinking the situation.

In her words:

“My husband and I got married when I was still an SSCE holder and he had ND. Fast forward to now, I have my Master’s degree. And it’s not like it was easy. I was raising kids, working a 9–5, running a business, and still went to school part-time till I finished.

My husband supported me, paid my school fees and all, but he refused to further his own education despite me telling him many times. Now this is where I’m struggling… Whenever I’m with my friends and we’re talking, and I have to mention that my husband is just an ND holder, I don’t even know how to say it without feeling somehow.

It makes me feel like we’re not on the same level again. I don’t know if it’s wrong for me to feel this way or if I’m overthinking it. Has anyone ever been in this kind of situation?”
