“He asked me to quit medicine after my promotion” – Doctor shares story of marital breakdown

A woman has shared a personal account of marital breakdown after her husband allegedly demanded she abandon her medical career shortly after she received a promotion at work.

Promotion followed by an ultimatum

According to her account, the issue arose immediately after she informed her husband of her professional advancement.

Rather than celebrating the milestone, she said he insisted she quit her job and focus solely on domestic responsibilities.

“Right after I shared the news of my promotion, my husband told me to quit my job as a doctor and become a full-time housewife,” she said.

She explained that the request came as a shock, given the years of education, training, and sacrifice required to build her career in medicine.

Choosing career over pressure

The woman said she firmly rejected the demand, stating that her profession was not something she was willing to abandon.

“When I refused to give up the career I worked so hard for, he gave me an ultimatum,” she said. “He said I should resign by month-end or we go our separate ways.”

She added that the ultimatum marked a turning point in their relationship, shifting the atmosphere in their home.

Silence and separation at home

Following her decision, she said her husband withdrew emotionally and physically.

“Now he’s silent, sleeping in another room, all because I chose my dream,” she said.
