Erling Haaland scored a controversial winner as 10-man Manchester City defeated Manchester United in a dramatic derby at Old Trafford.
City were reduced to 10 men for more than 70 minutes after Phil Foden was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes.

United took advantage of their numerical advantage and created several opportunities, hitting the post on either side of half-time. But City produced the decisive moment on the counter-attack in the 60th minute.
Haaland strikes after VAR check
Josko Gvardiol’s low cross took a deflection and reached Haaland at the far post, allowing the Norway international to tap the ball into an empty net.
The goal was immediately ruled out for offside, but VAR intervened after a lengthy review.
Haaland was eventually judged to be onside, while Enzo Fernandez was not considered to have interfered with play despite being in an offside position and attempting to connect with the cross before it reached the City striker.
The decision stood, giving City a crucial lead despite their numerical disadvantage.
City hold on to derby victory
United pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way through City’s defence, allowing Pep Guardiola’s side to claim a hard-fought victory.
The result preserves City’s perfect start to the Premier League season under new manager Enzo Maresca and moves them level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table.
For United, it was another disappointing afternoon. They have now dropped points in three of their opening four league matches and remain 13th in the standings.
The defeat will also leave United frustrated after failing to make their man advantage count for more than an hour of the derby.
