Guardiola apologizes to Phillips for ‘overweight’ comments

Pep Guardiola has publicly apologized to Kalvin Phillips for his comment about the player being ‘overweight’ last season.

Guardiola said that he discussed the issue with Phillips before addressing it in the media.

Phillips, who is currently on loan at West Ham, described Guardiola’s remark as the toughest moment of his Manchester City career.

He explained that there was a misunderstanding regarding his return to training after the World Cup, which led to him being slightly overweight.

 

Guardiola’s apology comes ahead of Manchester City’s match against Brentford, where they aim to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Phillips is facing a challenging start to his West Ham loan spell, having made a mistake leading to a goal in his debut and receiving a red card in his last outing.
