Griezmann signs for Orlando City after Atletico spell

Antoine Griezmann will join Orlando City at the end of the European season after completing a deal to leave Atletico Madrid.

The Major League Soccer side confirmed the agreement, with the 34-year-old signing a two-year contract and begin a new chapter in the United States this summer.

Deal agreed, move delayed

Griezmann had been linked with a move for several weeks and travelled to the United States to finalise the transfer.

However, his desire to finish the season strongly with Atletico, including their Copa del Rey campaign, delayed the switch.

Despite the closure of the MLS primary transfer window, the forward will officially complete the move once the European season concludes.

“I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City,” Griezmann said.

“From my first conversations with the club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future.”

Emotional Atletico farewell

Griezmann also confirmed his commitment to Atletico for the remainder of the campaign, issuing a farewell message to supporters.

“My present will remain red and white until the very last breath of this 2026 season. And my heart will be forever,” he said.

The Frenchman leaves as Atletico’s all-time top scorer, having built a legacy that includes multiple individual honours and a key role in the club’s recent successes.

Orlando target revival

Orlando City view the signing as a major boost as they look to improve a slow start to the MLS season.

Club sporting director Ricardo Moreira described the forward as a transformative addition.

“Antoine is a complete footballer – creative, intelligent, clinical – and he is a proven winner on the biggest stages of the game,” he said.

With experience at the highest level, including international success with France, Griezmann is expected to play a central role in Orlando’s push to climb the standings.
