Governor storms state secretariat, suspends workers not at their desks by 10 a.m

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has directed the suspension of civil servants who were absent from their duty posts by 10 a.m. on Thursday during his unannounced inspection of the state secretariat.

The governor carried out a surprise tour across various ministries and departments to assess workers’ punctuality, conduct, and overall commitment.

Addressing reporters after the inspection, Soludo said any staff not at their workstation by 10 a.m. would face suspension without pay.

“I walked into offices one after another and found a significant number of workers still absent past 10 a.m. This is unacceptable,” he stated.

He added that “bad eggs” in the civil service would be removed, stressing that Anambra cannot tolerate inefficiency. Soludo described his observations as a mix of “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

While criticising absenteeism and poor work ethics among some staff, he also commended those who were diligent and committed.

The governor warned that indiscipline and lack of dedication in the civil service would no longer be tolerated.

He reiterated his administration’s determination to build a disciplined, efficient, and results-oriented workforce, promising strict enforcement of ongoing reforms.

Soludo highlighted that the government had invested heavily in improving infrastructure and working conditions at the secretariat and urged workers to reciprocate with productivity and dedication.
