Gov. Sule dismisses 2027 threat, says ADC weakens opposition, not APC

Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule has dismissed concerns over the rising profile of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the opposition-backed party as a weakened force rather than a threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists on Friday after a visit to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Governor Sule said the coalition’s endorsement of the ADC only signals internal fractures within opposition ranks.
“I don’t know about ADC. ADC, actually, from what I was told, is a split — not from our party, but from another party. So, if it is a split from another party, well, they are only getting weaker,” he said.
Sule insisted that the APC remains focused on governance and development rather than being distracted by political manoeuvring from rival parties.
“We have never been worried about opposition. We have always been concerned about our strengths and what we need to do to give back to the good people of Nigeria,” he said.
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that APC governors across the country are doing their best to align with the administration’s development goals.
“Personally, I don’t pay attention to what the other parties are doing because I am more concerned about what my party is doing,” he added.
On the recent appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as APC’s National Chairman, Sule expressed satisfaction with the decision, particularly as it addresses the long-standing demand by North Central party members for a stronger voice in the party’s leadership.
“The new chairman is another Renewed Hope Agenda chairman. He is coming at a time when somebody like him is needed. We, the people of North Central, who have been agitating for the return of the chairmanship to our zone — we have no complaint now,” the governor stated.
