“Give me road, you bring rice, rice won’t solve our problems” — Man blasts politicians

A viral video circulating on social media has sparked fresh conversations about governance, accountability, and public expectations ahead of the next election cycle in Nigeria.
In the video, a man delivers a blunt message to political leaders, warning them against taking citizens for granted as elections draw closer.
His remarks, which have gained traction online, reflect growing frustration among many Nigerians over unmet promises and poor infrastructure.
The speaker stressed that with elections roughly a year away, politicians must return to their constituencies and begin meaningful development work instead of relying on short-term incentives.
Call for Accountability
In his words, he said: “Election is one year from now, about a year from now, if you have been taking the people for granted go back and walk.”
He went further to accuse some leaders of diverting public funds, urging them to return such money for community development.
According to him, funds allegedly stored in offshore accounts should be brought back and invested in local communities.
“The money you stole that you’ve kept in offshore account repatriate them back to the country take them to your village and walk,” he added.
Criticism of Luxury Spending
The man also criticised what he described as excessive spending on luxury properties in major cities like Abuja and Lagos.
He argued that public officials should prioritise grassroots development instead of acquiring multiple estates.
“The estate you are buying in Abuja and Lagos, you will not be needing a lot of it. Take that money, sell it… Take the money back home and work for your people,” he said.
Rejection of “Rice Politics”
A major highlight of the video was his strong criticism of what many Nigerians often describe as “stomach infrastructure” — the practice of distributing food items in place of sustainable development.
“Rice will not cut it. Original sativa. We are now running a sativatocrazy, where all problems are solved by rice,” he stated.
He continued by listing critical areas where citizens expect real progress:
“Give me roads, you bring rice. Give me school, you bring rice. Give me education, you bring rice. Give me healthcare, you bring rice. Help me secure the border, secure the country, you bring rice.”
