‘Ghana jollof is superior’ – Nigerians go diplomatic to win over Ghanaians ahead of Morocco clash

The social media space has been set agog as Nigerians engage in what has been dubbed “jollof diplomacy,” humorously conceding that Ghanaian jollof rice is superior.
The tongue-in-cheek campaign is widely interpreted as an attempt to curry goodwill ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 semi-final against hosts Morocco.
The timing is deliberate. The high-stakes clash will be officiated by Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea, a development confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and one that immediately triggered intense online reactions from Nigerian supporters.
