Galatasaray vs Liverpool: Slot points Osimhen’s key threats

Arne Slot has identified three major qualities possessed by Victor Osimhen that could trouble Liverpool when they face Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Turkish champions will host the Reds at RAMS Park in Istanbul for the first leg of their round-of-16 tie.

Although Liverpool are widely considered favourites on paper, Galatasaray already proved they can upset the English side earlier in the competition.

Galatasaray already stunned Liverpool

The two teams met during the group stage earlier in the season, when Galatasaray secured a shock 1-0 victory in Istanbul.

Osimhen scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot after Barış Alper Yılmaz was fouled early in the match.

The Nigerian striker calmly converted his effort past Alisson Becker to seal the win.

Since then, Osimhen has continued to shine in the competition, registering seven goals and two assists in eight Champions League appearances.

He has also impressed in high-profile games against clubs such as Juventus and Ajax.

Slot outlines Osimhen’s biggest strengths

Speaking ahead of the clash, Slot admitted the Nigerian forward caught Liverpool off guard during their previous meeting but insisted his team is now more aware of the threat he poses.

“Victor Osimhen is a finisher in the penalty area, very good in the air, and also very good in transition play,” the Liverpool manager said in his pre-match press conference.

Slot also warned his players not to underestimate Galatasaray’s attacking options, particularly the pace of winger Barış Alper Yılmaz.

“Barış Alper was too fast for us in the last match. There were moments when we couldn’t keep up with him. Now we know them. We know how quality they are.”

Osimhen enjoying strong form

Despite playing outside Europe’s traditional top leagues, Osimhen remains one of the continent’s most dangerous forwards.

The 27-year-old has scored 11 goals in the Süper Lig this season and continues to deliver in key matches.

He recently scored the only goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Beşiktaş JK, maintaining his strong run of form.

Overall, Osimhen has been directly involved in 10 goals in his last nine appearances for Galatasaray, scoring six of them, including a crucial strike away to Juventus in the Champions League last month.

With Liverpool still seeking defensive consistency, Slot acknowledged that even a small opportunity for the Nigerian striker in Istanbul could prove costly.
