Fuji star KWAM 1 enters race to become next Awujale of Ijebuland

Fuji music star Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has officially announced his intention to compete for the Awujale throne in Ijebuland.

On December 3, 2025, KWAM 1 submitted a letter expressing his desire to be considered for the Awujale stool, describing himself as a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa ruling house.

The letter quickly circulated online, sparking discussions about the intersection of celebrity and traditional rulership in Ijebuland.

Ruling House Demands Proof of Royal Lineage

In response, the Fusengbuwa ruling house emphasized that interest alone is not enough for aspirants.

Abdulateef Owoyemi, chairman of the ruling house, stated that every candidate must complete a detailed lineage form tracing ancestry back seven generations.

This measure aims to ensure that only genuine members of the royal family can lay claim to the stool.

“The first step is to declare your lineage. Your parents, grandparents, and those before them must be traced. Only genuine members of Fusengbuwa will be allowed,” Owoyemi said.

KWAM 1 Receives Special Extension

Although the official deadline for applications closed on December 5, KWAM 1 has been granted a five-day extension to submit his lineage documents, which will expire on December 10.

Owoyemi explained that the family welcomes influential figures who can strengthen the throne but insists that authenticity is non-negotiable.

Timeline for Selection Process

The process to select the next Awujale is already on a tight schedule. The Fusengbuwa ruling house has been given 14 days, ending December 18, to submit qualified candidates to the kingmakers.

The kingmakers will then have seven days to choose a candidate, whose name will be forwarded to the Ogun State governor.

Following this, a 21-day government review period begins, covering background checks, objections, and security clearance.

Why Lineage Verification Matters

According to the ruling house, verifying royal lineage is central to maintaining the integrity of the Awujale stool.

KWAM 1’s lineage will be scrutinized just like every other aspirant’s to prevent any outsider from claiming the throne.

“This is about preserving tradition and ensuring that only rightful members of Fusengbuwa ascend to the Awujale position,” Owoyemi stated.
