Former Liverpool striker pleads not guilty in court case

Former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has pleaded not guilty to breaching a non-molestation order relating to his ex-wife, Billi Mucklow, after appearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

The 37-year-old footballer, who currently plays for National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge, was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 4 March.

Alleged breach and court proceedings

Carroll was arrested in April 2025 following an incident said to have occurred in March. He was subsequently charged with breaching a non-molestation order, a court injunction designed to prevent contact or communication with a protected individual.

Prosecutors allege Carroll “repeatedly called” Mucklow, which would constitute a breach of the order. However, the former striker entered a not-guilty plea during Wednesday’s hearing.

Carroll arrived at court on crutches after undergoing surgery on a recent leg injury. Deputy district judge Roy Brown released him on bail but imposed strict conditions, including a continued ban on contacting Mucklow.

“If you breach that then, of course, you could end up being arrested and taken to custody,” Brown warned during the hearing.

If found guilty, Carroll could face penalties ranging from a fine to a prison sentence of up to five years.

Career background and current status

Carroll began his professional career at Newcastle United and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2010.

His performances earned him a high-profile move to Liverpool, though he struggled to establish himself at Anfield, scoring six goals in 44 appearances.

He later joined West Ham United, initially on loan before signing permanently in 2013, and went on to have further spells at Newcastle, Reading and West Bromwich Albion.

Carroll also spent time in France with Amiens and Bordeaux before returning to England in 2025 to sign for Dagenham & Redbridge.

The striker has earned nine senior caps for England and has made 13 league appearances for Dagenham & Redbridge this season.

Injury setback and next hearing

Carroll is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery on a leg injury. He confirmed the procedure was successful in a post on social media, saying: “I’ll be back with the @daggersfcofficial as soon as I can… the surgery on my fracture and ligaments went well.”

He is due back in court on 4 March for further proceedings as the case continues.
