Filmmaker Stanley Ontop reveals real cause of Alex Ekubo’s death, warns Nigerians

The death of Alex Ekubo has continued to stir emotions across the entertainment industry, as Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, disclosed that the late actor had been privately battling stage 4 liver cancer since 2024.
The revelation came just hours after reports of Alex Ekubo’s passing shocked colleagues, fans, and members of the Nigerian film industry, many of whom had been unaware of the severity of his health condition.
Sharing details surrounding the actor’s final days in an Instagram post on Tuesday evening, Stanley Ontop explained that Alex underwent extensive treatment, including a liver transplant, after being diagnosed with the terminal illness.
According to him, the actor briefly returned to work following the procedure, giving hope that his condition had improved.
However, complications later emerged after the transplanted liver reportedly failed again, leading to a decline in his health before his eventual death.
Stanley, who described himself as a close associate of the deceased actor, also confirmed that Alex Ekubo’s remains had been deposited in the morgue.
He further appealed to the public to avoid spreading rumours or unverified claims about the cause of the actor’s illness and death, urging Nigerians to respect the privacy of the bereaved family during the difficult period.
In his words, “Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work. Unfortunately, the liver failed again and complications arose, and his condition deteriorated until his passing.”
He added, “We kindly ask the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims regarding the cause of his illness. We request that everyone allow Alex to rest in peace and respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time.”
The tragic development has triggered an outpouring of grief on social media, with fans and colleagues paying tribute to the late actor’s talent, charisma, and contribution to Nollywood.
May his soul rest in peace.
