FG begins second tranche of N35,000 wage arrears payment to workers

The Federal Government (FG) has commenced the payment of the second tranche of the N35,000 wage award arrears to workers across the country.
The wage award, introduced in 2023 as a temporary relief measure to cushion the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy, was part of the government’s agreement with organised labour.
The arrears are now reportedly being paid to federal civil servants in batches.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed the commencement of the payment, assuring workers of the government’s commitment to clearing all outstanding arrears.
“The Federal Government has paid the second tranche of the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears to federal government workers,” the statement read.
The OAGF further dismissed reports suggesting the government had abandoned the payment process.
“Contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the Federal Government has not reneged on payment of the wage award arrears,” the statement added. “The Federal Government will continue to pay the wage award in instalments of N35,000 per month until the outstanding arrears are exhausted.”
