FG bans okada, keke marwa on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Federal Ministry of Works has declared a ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, announced the ban, which goes into force this week, in a statement released on Sunday.

Mr Dare explained that the decision was made to protect the newly constructed sections of the superhighway from misuse and damage.

He explained that the actions were necessary to maintain the route and assure its long-term viability.

The official further stated that indiscriminate truck and articulated vehicle parking would no longer be allowed.

According to him, the ban applies to the coastal highway and all bridges in Lagos State.

The ministry also outlaws the indiscriminate disposal of waste along highway lanes, calling the practice inappropriate.

Mr Dare warned that violators would face strong enforcement measures as authorities work to preserve order.

He said that signs announcing the limits had already been put along the highway.

Mr Dare stated that task force officers would be stationed in critical areas to ensure compliance.

He hailed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “world-class infrastructure” that must be properly maintained and protected.

The authority asked all road users to follow the instructions for the sake of public safety.

He emphasized that conserving the facility would extend its life and ensure its usefulness to Nigerians.
