Ifeanyi Festus Ezeli-Ndulue (born October 21, 1989) is a Nigerian-American former professional basketball player who spent five seasons in the National Basketball Association. He played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores before being taken as the 30th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, where he won an NBA championship in 2015. Ezeli last competed in the NBA Finals in 2016, and he did not play basketball in 2017 due to knee surgery until returning in 2021.

Festus Ezeli, the Golden State Warriors’ former centre, was born in Benin City, the capital of Edo State in Nigeria’s South South region. He was born on October 21, 1989. His full name is Ifeanyi Festus Ezeli-Ndulue. He belongs to the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.

He grew up with four siblings before immigrating to the United States at a young age. In an interview with ESPN, Ezeli said that his parents told him he was a special youngster, which helped shape his career path. Ezeli focused on studies, graduating from high school at the age of 14, and aspired to be a doctor. To advance his career aspirations, Ezeli’s parents sent him to live with his uncle, a paediatrician, in Yuba City, California, in 2004.

Shortly after arriving in Yuba City, Ezeli’s uncle pushed him to take up basketball, which appeared to be the most appropriate sport for a 6-foot-8-inch (2.03 m) teenager. This was far more challenging for Ezeli than academics because he had never participated in any organised sports, although he had played soccer as a child.

He attended a year of academics at Jesuit High School in Sacramento but did not play basketball; according to various versions, Ezeli was either ineligible to play because he had graduated from high school in Nigeria or was cut during the auditions. Ezeli’s organised basketball career began with a low-level AAU squad, and his first points came from his own team’s basket.

At 16, Ezeli joined a second AAU team and enrolled part-time at Yuba Community College. By not going full-time, he kept his full four years of college eligibility and was able to practise with the team; Ezeli also worked as the team’s cameraman. Despite still learning the fundamentals of basketball, Ezeli made his high-level competitive debut on the AAU circuit in the summer of 2007.

By then, Ezeli had grown to 6 feet 11 inches (2.11 metres) and averaged 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks per game, earning an invitation to the Reebok All-American Camp in July 2007. Ezeli arrived in Nashville in 2007 as a biology major, one of the rawest basketball prospects.
