Ferdinand family trapped in Dubai amid missile escalation

Rio Ferdinand has described a “scary” situation in Dubai after missile activity linked to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel forced his family to shelter indoors.
The former Manchester United and England defender, who relocated to the UAE last year with wife Kate Ferdinand and their children, said they were advised to take cover as military exchanges intensified across the region.
“It’s been frightening”
Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand said the family had retreated to their basement as a precaution.
“It’s frightening when you hear missiles, planes and fighter jets, I don’t know what it is, going above us, and you’re hearing big bombs,” he said. “It’s telling your kids what it is and helping them navigate through this moment.”

He added that, despite the fear, he has tried to remain calm for his family. “I’ve got to be honest guys, it’s been a bit of a scary situation. But at the same time, weirdly enough, I’ve felt very secure and looked after.”
Ferdinand described the experience as reminiscent of Covid lockdowns, with the family staying indoors, home-schooling and spending extended time together.
Regional fallout
Missile exchanges across parts of the Middle East have led to heightened security measures in several Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates. Residents have reportedly taken shelter in basements and underground facilities as a precaution.
Kate Ferdinand also confirmed on social media that the family is safe, acknowledging the tense atmosphere but expressing confidence in local authorities.
