Fayose urges Fubara to reconcile with Wike as impeachment threat grows

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has advised Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to end his political feud with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, warning that continued confrontation could cost him his seat.

Fayose said Fubara should seek reconciliation rather than escalate the crisis rocking the state.

Fayose warns Fubara against political confrontation with Wike

Speaking on Tuesday, Fayose stressed that political leadership is built on loyalty and support, urging Fubara to remember how he emerged as governor.

He warned that challenging Wike’s influence in Rivers politics could weaken Fubara’s position and further destabilise the state.

He said, “My own position is always clear. Fubara, my governor, all of them, got their strength from other people. There’s a difference between the office and 001. Who gave you the platform to call yourself the 001? It is a sad narrative for Governor Fubara to be struggling. Rather, he should manage the situation.”

Fayose also cited examples from other states, noting that humility and loyalty have helped some governors maintain stability.

He recalled advising his own successor in Ekiti State to respect former Governor Kayode Fayemi despite political differences.

He added, “I told my governor, whatever governor Fayemi has done to you, remember the day he gave you that platform. Don’t say ill of him, cooperate with him. Those people pushing Governor Fubara today, if he goes down, they will run away.”

The warning comes as the Rivers State House of Assembly has reportedly commenced impeachment proceedings against Fubara over alleged gross misconduct.

The move is linked to the prolonged power struggle between Fubara and Wike, which has plunged Rivers State into political tension since late 2023.
