Fan violence overshadows Inter’s Serie A win at Genoa

Inter Milan’s Serie A trip to Genoa was preceded by serious crowd disorder on Sunday evening, with violent clashes forcing police to intervene before kick-off at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Around an hour before the match, groups of Genoa supporters targeted areas around the stadium where visiting Inter fans were gathered.
Firecrackers and smoke bombs were thrown, while several vehicles were set ablaze, prompting riot police to deploy tear gas to restore order.

Pre-match clashes and police intervention
Local reports confirmed that at least three cars were burned, alongside a van and a scooter, while multiple rubbish bins were also set on fire.
Two people were injured during the unrest, though no further details on their condition were disclosed.
Match goes ahead as scheduled
Despite the disturbances, authorities did not delay the fixture, and the match kicked off as planned.
Inter struck early through Yann Aurel Bisseck, who opened the scoring inside six minutes.

Inter reclaim top spot
Lautaro Martínez doubled the visitors’ advantage before half-time, with Genoa pulling one back after the break through Vitinha.
Inter held on for the win, returning to the top of Serie A, one point clear after 15 matches, while Genoa remain 16th, just two points above the relegation zone.
No direct rivalry between clubs
The violence was striking given the lack of a traditional rivalry between the two sides. Genoa’s fiercest rivals are Sampdoria, while Inter’s main derbies are against AC Milan and Juventus.
