Fan dies after jumping into River Seine celebrating PSG Champions League triumph

A Paris Saint-Germain supporter has died after reportedly jumping into the River Seine in France during celebrations following the club’s Champions League final victory over Arsenal.
The incident is the second confirmed death linked to the celebrations that followed PSG’s successful defence of their European crown, with authorities also reporting hundreds of arrests across France.
According to reports, the body of the man, believed to be in his 30s, was recovered from the Seine near the Notre-Dame Cathedral area on Sunday morning.
Investigation launched
An investigating source said rescue services responded after reports that the supporter had entered the river during post-match celebrations.

“River police took the body out of the river at around 7am, but attempts to revive the man, who was in his 30s, failed,” the source said.
“Witnesses described how he was out celebrating PSG’s win, and had been drinking heavily before jumping into the water.”
French prosecutors have opened an investigation and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Authorities also confirmed that another man who entered the Seine remains in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Second fatality linked to celebrations
The drowning came hours after a separate fatal incident involving a 23-year-old motorcyclist on Paris’ ring road.
Prosecutors said the rider collided with a concrete barrier after safety cones marking the obstacle had allegedly been removed.
A statement from prosecutors said: “CCTV footage confirmed that the individual was the sole person involved in the accident, and showed that the traffic cones marking the barrier had been removed by pedestrians.”
Violence and arrests across France
Celebrations following PSG’s Champions League triumph were marred by widespread disorder in Paris and several other French cities.
Police reported incidents of looting, vandalism, attacks on officers and clashes between rival groups. A 17-year-old male was also seriously injured in a stabbing incident and remains in hospital, while prosecutors have opened an attempted murder investigation.
French authorities said at least 790 people were arrested nationwide, with nearly 400 of those detentions taking place in Paris.
Around 8,000 police officers were deployed across the capital as large crowds gathered to celebrate PSG’s victory, which was secured after a penalty shootout win over Arsenal in Budapest.
