Fabregas tipped for Chelsea job

Cesc Fabregas has been backed to take charge of either Chelsea or Barcelona following his impressive managerial rise with Como.

The 38-year-old has earned widespread praise after guiding Como into the top four of Serie A, putting the club on course for a potential Champions League qualification.

‘Remarkable’ progress at Como

Fabregas transitioned into coaching immediately after retiring, initially working with Como’s youth teams before stepping into the senior role in 2023.

Despite early questions over his lack of a UEFA Pro Licence, the former Spain international has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young managers.

AC Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini praised his impact, saying: “Remarkable. Of course, they spent a lot of money. But, they spent money in the right way.”

He added: “They found players perfect for the way Cesc wanted to play… that’s why they deserve to stay in the position they are in right now.”

Como’s rise has been one of the standout stories in Italy this season, with Fabregas adapting tactically to the demands of the league.

Big clubs linked with future move

Fabregas’ rapid development has inevitably attracted attention from top European clubs, particularly those where he previously played.

Ambrosini believes a return to one of his former sides is possible but stressed the importance of timing.

“Of course Barcelona would be, could be, a good choice… But maybe Chelsea,” he said.

“You have to find the right place… a situation where you can do what you think is good for you.”

While Hansi Flick is expected to remain in charge at Barcelona, and Mikel Arteta continues to lead Arsenal, uncertainty at Chelsea could open a pathway.

For now, Fabregas remains focused on Como’s campaign, but his trajectory suggests a move to a major European club could be a matter of when, not if.
