FA Cup: Marmoush double fires Man City past Newcastle

Omar Marmoush scored twice as Manchester City came from behind to defeat Newcastle United and reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The victory means City have now reached the last eight of the competition for the eighth consecutive season.
Newcastle strike first
Newcastle began the fifth-round clash well at St James’ Park. Nick Woltemade went close early on, only for his header to be cleared off the line by Nico Gonzalez.
The breakthrough soon arrived when Harvey Barnes beat the offside trap to collect Sandro Tonali’s through pass before cutting inside and curling a precise finish into the far corner.
The goal sparked the home crowd and handed Newcastle an early advantage.

City respond through Savinho
Manchester City gradually regained control and levelled after a spell of sustained pressure.
Jeremy Doku delivered a low cross from the left that travelled across the area to Savinho at the far post, with the ball deflecting off the forward’s knee and trickling over the line.
Marmoush seals turnaround
City carried their form into the second half and took the lead when Matheus Nunes cut the ball across the box for Marmoush, who controlled calmly before finishing from close range.
The Egyptian forward then wrapped up the victory minutes later, unleashing a powerful strike from outside the area that left Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with no chance.
The result ends Newcastle’s hopes of another trip to Wembley and continues Manchester City’s consistent run deep into the FA Cup under Pep Guardiola.
