“Even hair has rules?” – Lady shares hilarious first-time shaving experience at university
A Nigerian lady, Okih Bukola, has shared a humorous story about her first experience shaving her pubic hair in university.
Bukola took to Facebook to recount a relatable experience, highlighting the pressures and challenges of peer influence.
First Encounter With the Shaving Stick
According to Bukola, when she entered university, she noticed every girl in the hostel had a shaving stick.
“Not one. Not two. EVERYBODY,” she wrote. “The only human being I knew that used a shaving stick was my father, and as far as I was concerned, men used it to shave their beards. So I was confused.”
Having only seen men use such sticks for facial hair, she was initially confused.
“I told myself, ‘Bukky, face your book. This is not your ministry,’” she said, deciding to ignore it at first.
Peer Pressure
A few months later, while dressing one evening, a roommate confronted her.
“BUKKYYY!! You wan plait this evil forest??” the roommate reportedly shouted, pointing directly at her private area. She added, “So you no dey shave?? Abi your guy like make something dey hold him like Velcro??”
Bukola admitted she was shocked, but that encounter made her realise the purpose of the shaving stick.
First Attempt and Regret
Determined to fit in, she bought her own shaving stick the next morning.
Bukola revealed that she locked herself in the bathroom, nervously staring in the mirror before attempting to shave.
“I looked at myself in the mirror!” she said. “Today is my freedom day.”
However, five minutes after leaving the bathroom, the itching started. By the time she went for lectures, it had become unbearable, forcing her to discreetly press and scratch while pretending to take notes in class.
Describing the ordeal, she said: “As I was going for lecture, I was scratching on the road like person wey dey pursue invisible goat. In the lecture hall… I crossed my legs. People thought I was forming posh. Na lie. I was using one leg to press Angelina so she can behave.”
Lesson Learned
Upon returning to the hostel, Bukola confronted her roommate about the discomfort.
Her roommate reportedly explained that Bukola had shaved against the direction of hair growth, which caused the itching.
