Evan Zauder Biography

Evan Zauder was born in January 1986 and raised in Toronto, Canada, where he graduated from CHAT High School.

He spent two years studying at Yeshivat HaKotel in Jerusalem, Israel, before completing his career at Yeshiva University, where he received an undergraduate degree in Political Science with a minor in Hebrew Language.

He eventually earned dual master’s degrees in Education and Jewish Studies at New York University as a Jim Joseph Fellow.

Career

Zauder worked intensively with young people in the Orthodox Jewish community. He worked as a Regional Director at Bnei Akiva in New York before becoming Director of the In-School Programming Division. He also served as Director of Youth Programming at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale and oversaw a post-tenth grade summer program in Israel.

He also formed and directs the Yeshivat HaKotel Alumni Association of America. He spent the summers working for Bnei Akiva of North America and participating in numerous youth camps and educational programs.

Controversy

In 2012, Zauder was arrested for possessing, distributing, and receiving child pornography, as well as using the internet to persuade a juvenile to participate in sexual behaviour.. On January 3, 2013, he pleaded guilty to one count of enticing a juvenile, one count of transporting, receiving, and distributing child pornography, and one count of possessing child pornography.

He was sentenced to thirteen years in federal prison. Investigations revealed that his illicit activity did not involve pupils from his previous workplace, Yeshivat Noam in Paramus, New Jersey.
