EPL: West Ham receive clarity on Mainoo, Zirkzee availability

West Ham United have gained clarity into Manchester United’s position on Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee as the January window approaches.

Despite Ruben Amorim’s recent progress at Old Trafford, several squad players are struggling for minutes, including the two Hammers targets.

Mainoo and Zirkzee remain outside Amorim’s preferred starting XI and have been linked with potential exits.

However, the manager has publicly stressed that any decision will be driven by the club’s strategic interests, not individual frustrations.

Amorim prioritises club needs over player ambitions

Amorim has warned both players that Manchester United will not sanction moves unless departures align with the club’s broader operational priorities.

He stated: “The club comes first. We have to think about the club and the team, and then everything can happen. I want my players to be happy, but Manchester United comes first.”

He acknowledged the players’ concerns ahead of next summer’s World Cup but maintained that squad depth remains non-negotiable if it benefits the team.

Midfield reinforcement still on West Ham’s agenda

West Ham, meanwhile, remain strongly interested in Mainoo, with the England international viewed as an immediate upgrade who would walk into the starting XI.

His current situation, playing behind Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, has opened the door for exploratory talks.

Should Nuno Espírito Santo insist on the 20-year-old as a priority target, direct engagement from the manager is expected. Mainoo’s profile is on line with the Hammers’ long-term midfield blueprint, particularly alongside Lucas Paquetá and Mateus Fernandes.
