EPL: Mauricio Pochettino reveals where Jurgen Klopp is superior to him

Ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool today, August 13, the Blues’ coach Mauricio Pochettino has revealed where the Reds coach, Jurgen Klopp is superior to him.

Pochettino who disclosed that he has a good relationship with Klopp, said his German counterpart is better than him at showing off his passion on the field. He also praised Klopp’s philosophy and personality.

He told reporters;

“He is better than me at showing his personality! But yes, his passion is there. I enjoy his philosophy for football, how he is and his character. I like how he is a very warm person, he has his character and I think his debut was against us at Tottenham. Yes, from there, we’ve had very good relations. We have some of the same friends who played for Southampton like Adam Lallana that create a good link in between. A player that loves us and Jurgen. It is a good link, communication period between the coaching staff.”

Pochettino also recalled how Klopp sent him a message after he was sacked from Tottenham in 2019. The Argentine further disclosed that he wants to defeat the Liverpool coach who he has only beaten once.

He added;

“I love him, but I want to beat him — it’s going to be a good game and for sure I am going to enjoy meeting him again. I cannot tell you what he said in the message, but they were very nice words. [In the Champions League final] we competed really well and, for different reasons, they won.

“But I have nothing to say against Liverpool or Jurgen, that is football, and I hope we can arrive again one day and the result will be different.”

In 11 competitive fixtures, Pochettino has only beaten the German once, which came back in October 2017 when Spurs dismantled a woeful Reds defence to secure a 4-1 victory in the Premier League. Klopp, on the other hand, has triumphed over Pochettino on six occasions while they have shared the points four times.
