EPL: Man United overcome early scare to beat Wolves 4-1

Manchester United had to absorb pressure and recover from an early setback at Molineux before securing a result that lifted them to sixth place in the Premier League.

Wolves, amid a fan-led protest against their Chinese ownership, struck first when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde ended the hosts’ 540-minute goal drought by capitalising on a fortunate rebound.

United were punished after wasting several chances, including a glaring miss from Bruno Fernandes following a costly hesitation by Wolves goalkeeper Andre.

Momentum shifts after the break

Luke Shaw’s aggressive challenge on Bellegarde triggered a quick counter-attack that allowed Diogo Dalot to tee up Bryan Mbeumo for a simple tap-in.

The visitors grew in confidence, and Mason Mount extended the lead with a composed finish after expertly controlling a chipped pass from Fernandes.

United found themselves two goals ahead in an away league match for the first time since March.

Fernandes caps dominant second half

Fernandes added a late penalty, awarded after a VAR check for handball by Yerson Mosquera, to seal United’s biggest win of the season.

The result eased pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim, who watched on with minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and darts world champion Luke Littler in attendance.

Wolves’ crisis deepens

Molineux grew increasingly hostile as Wolves slid to an eighth consecutive defeat, matching a club record.

Fans directed chants at chairman Jeff Shi, and manager Rob Edwards’ decision to substitute striker Jorgen Strand Larsen was met with loud approval.

The mood did not improve, as Wolves remain bottom with just two points.
