EPL: Mac Allister reacts to red card he was awarded being rescinded

Argentine midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister will be featuring for Liverpool in their Premier League match against Newcastle United, as the red card he was awarded in the match against Bournemouth has been rescinded.

The £35m summer signing was sent off on his first league appearance at Anfield by the referee Thomas Bramall for a 58th-minute foul on Ryan Christie. Although his boot was high when he made contact with the Bournemouth player, there appeared to be little force in the challenge and it was quite surprising that the VAR, Paul Tierney, did not ask Bramall to review the decision on the pitchside monitor.

Speaking after the match which ended 3-1 in favour of the Reds, Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp said;

“We have to talk about it and everyone agrees. I 100 per cent understand how it looks for the ref in that moment but when you see it back it’s the inside of the foot with no power in it.

“We’ve seen harsher challenges that weren’t red cards that should’ve been. I think we should talk about it. If he said it was a yellow, the VAR wouldn’t have upgraded to a red card.

“Everything is lacking for a red card, the intensity. Yes, there was contact but there must be a different intention when it’s a red card. We will talk to the people about it.”

Mac Allister was expected to miss games against Newcastle on Sunday, August 27, and against Aston Villa and Wolves in September, but Liverpool got positive nod in their appeal against the red card.

Confirming that the three-match ban has been rescinded, the English FA said in a statement;

“An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal.”

Reacting to the news, Mac Allister wrote on X: “Thank you, LFC!”
