Despite the pressure from Tottenham, it was Newcastle who took the lead in the first half. Lloyd Kelly, making a strong run down the left, delivered a ball into the box, which Harvey Barnes expertly volleyed into the far corner.
Tottenham, led by manager Ange Postecoglou, pushed for an equalizer but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.
Their best chance came from Pape Matar Sarr, who forced a save from Nick Pope with a long-range effort.
The second half saw Postecoglou make changes to his attacking lineup, bringing on Brennan Johnson.
Spurs equalized through an own-goal by Dan Burn, before Isak sealed the win for the Magpies.
