EPL: Chelsea joins Arsenal in race to sign Kudus

Chelsea have contacted Ajax about a potential transfer for Arsenal-linked attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

The Blues are yet to make a formal offer but are thought to be close to agreeing personal terms with the player. Kudus, whose contract expires Summer 2025, recently turned down a contract extension with the Dutch club, signaling his intent to leave the Eredivisie.

With Mason Mount and Kai Havertz now at rival outfits, Chelsea now appears to be pushing for at least one creative outlet in midfield. The Ghanaian is a dynamic, multifunctional player, capable of playing in a variety of positions in both midfield and across the front line.

Arsenal have also been linked with Kudus previously, with his versatility to play across the frontline and in midfield deemed an attractive attribute at the Emirates Stadium. However, after welcoming three new arrivals already this summer, the focus in North London is on offloading fringe players that no longer have a future at the club.

Popular journalist, David Orstein who confirmed Chelsea’s interest in Kudus wrote;

Last season, Kudus impressed at the UEFA Champions League, netting four goals and providing a further two assists during the group stages.

A goal against Liverpool caught the eye of Arsenal icon Thierry Henry. Speaking about Kudus’ finish against the Reds, Henry told CBS Sports “He came from the Academy Right to Dream from Ghana and he is living the dream.Take a bow son, what a finish from Kudus!”

The Ghana international scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for Ajax last season.
