EPL: Arteta agrees new Arsenal contract

Mikel Arteta has reached an agreement with Arsenal over a new contract that will extend his stay at the club beyond the end of the current season.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to expire this summer, but negotiations between the two parties have been ongoing for several months.

An agreement had been close in recent weeks, and Arteta has now finalised terms on an improved contract with the Premier League champions.

Arteta set for extended Arsenal stay

The exact length of the new deal has not been confirmed, but it is expected to keep Arteta at the Emirates for at least a decade since he took charge in December 2019.

The agreement will also reportedly include a significant increase on his current £10 million annual salary, with additional bonuses understood to be part of his package.

Arteta had already indicated that he wanted to remain in north London when asked about his future last week.

“I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said.

The Arsenal manager also sought to reassure supporters over the contract situation, making it clear that there was no reason for them to be concerned about his future.

Arteta targets more success

The new agreement comes after a period of significant progress under Arteta, who guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 20 years last season.

Although the club narrowly missed out on winning the Champions League, that disappointment has reportedly strengthened Arteta’s determination to continue building the team.

His decision to remain also provides continuity for an Arsenal side that has developed into one of Europe’s leading teams under his management.

Arteta arrived at Arsenal in December 2019 and has overseen the club’s transformation from a team struggling for consistency into Premier League champions.

With his new deal now agreed, the Spaniard will have the opportunity to continue pursuing further domestic and European success with the Gunners.
