EFCC chairman links abandoned Abuja estates to corrupt civil servants
Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says many abandoned estates in Abuja were funded by civil servants who stole public funds.
Speaking at a policy dialogue in Abuja, Olukoyede said some of the estates have been abandoned for over ten years.
He revealed that a special team has been set up to visit the properties and identify their real owners.
He noted that some civil servants abandon these estates after leaving office when illegal funds stop coming in, leaving developers to search for new investors.
Olukoyede said the agency has recently filed for the forfeiture of about fifteen estates and hinted that more action is coming based on fresh intelligence.
He also warned lawyers and developers against helping people involved in money laundering.
