Edo attack: “If Peter Obi was shot, nothing would happen” – Afenifere chieftain warns

The director of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, Akin Fapohunda, has warned former Anambra State governor Peter Obi to be careful with his safety following a recent attack linked to political activities.
His comment comes after reports that Obi’s convoy was attacked by suspected gunmen during a gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City.
The incident reportedly occurred during the formal declaration of a political figure into the party.
Speaking on the incident, Fapohunda said:
“Assassination is not a big deal when you are contesting power with people who are not civilized.”
He further criticised political leadership in Edo State while reacting to the development, alleging that some politicians operate with what he described as a “village mentality.”
The Afenifere chieftain also warned Obi not to risk his life unnecessarily in the struggle for political power.
“If Peter Obi was shot, what would happen? Nothing will happen. Anybody who dies, just dies. Peter Obi better protect himself and not just die in vain. If he dies, nothing will happen. People will only protest for a few days and nothing will happen.”
The statement has further drawn attention to the security risks often associated with political activities in Nigeria, especially as the country gradually approaches another election cycle.
