Career

Labor of Love marked the start of Watson’s acting career in 2010.  He played a minor role in the African war movie Somewhere in Africa later that year.  For the role of a new character in the follow-up to Venus Films’ already well-liked 4Play Reloaded, Costar Majid Michel suggested Watson to director Frank Rajah.

He received a nomination for the Nollywood and African Film Critics Awards (NAFCA) for his supporting role in Frank Rajah’s Somewhere in Africa.

The next year, Watson starred in movies including A Reason to Kill and Single Six. By 2011, he had made his Nollywood debut in Desperate Heart, costarring alongside Queen Nwokoye. The actor swiftly rose to fame in African entertainment with roles in movies including House of Gold, Letters to My Mother, Purple Rose, and Single and Married in 2012 and 2013.

For Watson, 2014 was a year of mixed emotions. West Africa was one of the regions most affected by the Ebola virus, including Liberia, Watson’s home country. The short film Ebola was written, produced, and directed by Watson.

The actor was also nominated many times during the year for parts in movies, including Sister at War, Bachelors, and Purple Rose. He received his first Ghana Movie Award nominations in two categories: Best Actor in a Lead Role for Bachelors and Best Short Film for Ebola, both of which he won. She Prayed and Jack & Jill are two important films that the actor created.

With the help of the actors and other African film stars, including Majid Michel, Beverly Osu, and Melvin Oduah, Eddie Watson made her Sierra Leonean film debut on Saturday, December 5, 2015. The screening of “She Prayed” is thought to have been the biggest of all international programs and premieres in Sierra Leone in 2015.  The movie maintained an incredible 98% of its first rating.
