Drama as bride allegedly slaps mother-in-law during wedding reception over food, marriage reportedly end

A wedding reception in Edo State reportedly turned dramatic after a disagreement over food allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation between a bride and her mother-in-law.
The incident, which has since sparked widespread reactions online, was shared in a viral video, with claims that the marriage ended just two days after the wedding.
Food dispute allegedly sparks confrontation
According to the account shared in the video, a couple from the groom’s mother’s side arrived at the reception after the food had already finished.
It was claimed that the only remaining portion had been reserved by the bride for her own parents.
The narrator said:
“A couple from groom’s mother’s side arrived at the time food had finished and the portion of food the bride left for her parents was the only available option.
“The mother-in-law had approached her daughter-in-law and whispered to her that she would like to take some of the food to give the couple who came from a far distance.
“The new bride vehemently refused.”
The account further alleged that the mother-in-law, frustrated by the situation, went ahead to serve the visitors herself.
“Mother-in-law who looked frustrated already went ahead to scoop some food herself but the bride took it from her and poured it back into the cooler.
“Angrily the mother-in-law slapped the son’s wife and she slapped the mother-in-law back.”
Marriage allegedly ends two days later
The incident reportedly generated tension within the family, with claims that the marriage came to an end just two days after the wedding ceremony.
Several people featured in the video also shared their opinions on the incident.
One Clergyman said:
“The behaviour of the girl was not in order at all because she disrespected her mother-in-law and that shouldn’t have been.”
Another Clergyman added:
“I believe that if this woman had had some level of respect, some level of submission, she wouldn’t have reacted to the point of challenging the mother-in-law.”
An Edo resident said:
“The bride went too far.”
Another attendee said:
“I’ll send her packing immediately. I won’t even waste two days. That very day I’ll just send her packing.”
A clergywoman also weighed in:
“When you are going to a home and you’re already showing that you are not well cultured, your family are not good then you should be getting ready that you have no seats in that marriage.”
Lawyer speaks on marriage laws
A lawyer who appeared in the discussion also addressed the legal aspect of the situation.
She stated:“In our own Nigerian law regarding marriage, for you to file for divorce the marriage must have stayed for at least two years. No matter how you may view the scenario…”
