‘Drake Curse’ strikes again as rapper loses $1.5m Argentina World Cup final bet

Canadian rapper Drake has lost a reported $1.5 million bet after Argentina were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The musician had backed Lionel Messi’s side to defeat Spain within 90 minutes, with the wager carrying a potential return of about $5.1 million.

However, the match ended goalless in normal time before Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time to hand Spain their second World Cup title.

The unsuccessful prediction has once again drawn attention to the widely discussed “Drake Curse” among sports fans, a superstition claiming that teams or athletes publicly backed by the rapper often fail to win.

Argentina bet ends in disappointment

Drake’s latest loss came after he publicly revealed his support for Argentina before the final.

Many supporters of the South American champions reacted on social media after learning about the wager, with some expressing concern because of the rapper’s history of unsuccessful sports bets.

Argentina entered the final as defending champions but were unable to retain the trophy despite reaching a second consecutive World Cup final under Lionel Scaloni.

Spain eventually secured victory in extra time after dominating much of the contest.

Mixed record with football wagers

Although Drake has become known for high-profile betting losses, his predictions have not always ended unsuccessfully.

The rapper reportedly won a major wager during the 2022 FIFA World Cup after correctly backing Argentina to beat France in the final. That match finished level after extra time before Argentina lifted the trophy following a penalty shootout.

His recent betting record, however, has been less successful.

Earlier this year, reports claimed Drake lost $1 million after backing the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.

He also reportedly lost another $300,000 after predicting Jannik Sinner would defeat Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open.
