Dortmund reach deal to extend Chukwuemeka’s loan from Chelsea

Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement with Chelsea to extend Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan until the end of the FIFA Club World Cup, according to sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
Speaking to reporters in Florida, Kehl confirmed the positive development, stating: “There is positive news about Carney.
“I conducted discussions with Chelsea. In the end, we have a general agreement that Carney will stay with us as long as this tournament is for Borussia Dortmund.
“There are still some formalities to be dealt with, but we are very confident that we will continue to see Carney back in a black and yellow jersey at this tournament.”
Chukwuemeka’s original loan deal was due to expire on June 30, but with Dortmund progressing in the Club World Cup, both clubs have moved to extend the midfielder’s stay.
While Dortmund had previously explored the possibility of signing the England U21 international permanently, financial constraints prevented a full transfer.
However, the timing of Jamie Gittens’ imminent €65 million move to Chelsea has raised speculation that Chukwuemeka’s temporary extension may have been negotiated as part of that deal.
The 20-year-old has impressed in Dortmund colours during the tournament, and his continued presence could prove crucial as they aim for Club World Cup glory.
