“Don’t shrink yourself” – Lady advises women who earn more than their partners, sparking online reactions

A Nigerian lady has shared a strong message for women who earn more than the men they are dating or married to, urging them to stop shrinking themselves or apologising for their success.
According to her, women should unlearn the habit passed down from older generations where financial independence was hidden to protect a man’s ego.
In her words, she said:
“Don’t make the mistake of shrinking yourself like our mothers did. It is not your fault you earn more, and it should never matter.”
She advised women to be confident about their financial contributions, especially in public spaces.
When couples go out, she encouraged women to pay with their cards without feeling the need to let their partners pay just so they can ‘feel like the man.’
She stressed that allowing a man to pay does not automatically translate to submission, and a woman paying does not reduce her partner’s masculinity.
The lady also spoke about honesty within the home, particularly when it comes to children.
She urged women to stop pretending that their husbands pay for everything and instead acknowledge their own contributions.
“If both of you contribute, let your children know. Teach them teamwork and shared responsibility,” she added.
Her message has sparked conversations online, with many women applauding her honesty and encouraging others to embrace their financial independence without guilt.
She concluded with a clear reminder: women are providers too, and there is nothing wrong with that.
