“Don’t defect to party voters have rejected” – NNPP tells members planning to join APC

Kano State leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have refuted claims that they are backing members planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press statement released by the state’s national chairman, Hon. Hashim Suleiman Dungurawa, the party urged members to remain patient and stay within the NNPP, emphasising that the ruling party has been rejected by the electorate.
Appeal Against Defections
The statement highlighted that the Kano State party, the national leadership, and the party’s National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, do not approve of the ongoing defection plans.
Efforts have reportedly been made to persuade intending defectors to reconsider, but challenges persist.
Dungurawa said: “On behalf of all of us collectively, we once again appeal to them, for the sake of Allah and the Prophet, not to leave this party and not to defect to the party that we have opposed and which the masses and other voters have rejected.”
He added that the NNPP remains committed to improving sectors such as education, agriculture, and commerce, as outlined in the party’s constitution.
Rumours Addressed
The chairman also addressed circulating rumours suggesting that some party members were attempting to pitch the Governor against Senator Kwankwaso, specifically mentioning Deputy Governor Senator Rufai Hanga, Sanusi Surajo, and Hashimu Dungurawa.
He described these claims as baseless, citing the party’s loyalty and good relationship with its leader.
He further advised the public not to append their names to any documents being circulated by “mischief makers” and called on all Kano residents and Nigerians to continue supporting the NNPP and Senator Kwankwaso ahead of upcoming elections.
