“Don’t come back home without a husband” – Man recounts girlfriend’s mom’s airport remark that left him heartbroken
A Nigerian man has shared a painful experience, recounting the moment he accompanied his girlfriend to the airport, only to hear her mother make a statement that completely changed how he viewed their relationship.
According to him, he had gone to see his girlfriend off as she prepared to travel to Canada, hoping to create one last memory together before her departure.
However, while they were at the airport, her mother turned to her daughter and made a remark that instantly shattered the moment, leaving him heartbroken.
Speaking in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he said:
“Imagine following your girlfriend to the airport as she’s leaving for Canada, and just as you’re about to create one last memory together before she departs, her mum said, ‘My daughter, make sure you don’t come back home without a husband.’”
The man did not reveal what happened afterwards or whether the relationship survived the incident, but admitted that the statement made him question where he truly stood in his girlfriend’s future.
His story has since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users sympathising with him, while others argued that the mother’s comment may have been harmless advice or simply reflected her hopes for her daughter’s future.
