“Dance in peace, avoid alcohol” – President Tinubu cautions Nigerians as Christmas approaches

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to exercise restraint and responsibility as they celebrate the Christmas season, warning that reckless behaviour, especially excessive alcohol consumption, could lead to avoidable loss of lives.
The president gave the advice while speaking on News Century TV, where he urged citizens across the country to prioritise peace, safety, and mutual respect during the festive period.
According to him, Christmas should not be a time for chaos or violence but a season marked by joy, love, and unity.
Tinubu stressed that many tragic incidents recorded during festive seasons are often linked to drunk driving, public disturbances, and poor decision-making influenced by alcohol.
He therefore encouraged Nigerians to celebrate in a way that protects both their lives and the lives of others.
“Stay in peace, dance in peace, no alcohol, no danger to anyone’s life,” the president said.
He further reminded citizens that Nigeria remains one big family despite its differences, adding that everyone has a responsibility to look out for one another, especially during periods of increased movement, social gatherings, and road travel.
Tinubu’s message aligns with broader appeals from security agencies and community leaders urging Nigerians to celebrate responsibly, maintain public order, and ensure that the Christmas season ends in joy rather than tragedy.
